The University of Hawaii at Manoa has been committed to the success of its students by providing Orientation for the new incoming students to the university.
[edit] What is New Student Orientation?
New Student Orientation was created in order to help students transition from their high school or previous university/college to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. When attending orientation students can expect to tour the campus, be introduced to faculty members of the University, meet with other incoming students, and to learn about the different resources available to them in and around campus.
[edit] Purpose
The purpose of New Student Orientation for Freshman students is as follows:
- Clarify their purpose for attending college (i.e. their education goal);
- Identify what they need intellectually and interpersonally to learn, succeed, and grow during their first semester or two of matriculation at UH-Manoa;
- Seek out the variety of campus resources, services, and programs at UH-Manoa to satisfy their needs;
- Know and use information about academic policies, procedures, requirements, and programs that will enable them to select courses, plan their academic class schedule for the first year, and register for courses;
- Explain how expectations for college success at UH-Manoa may be similar and different from their high school or previous college campus;
- Know and use tools which enable them to make reasoned and well-informed decisions in light of their newfound responsibility and freedom the college environment affords;
- Approach others on campus to develop and maintain purposeful and positive relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
