The Newton Public Schools are committed to meeting the learning needs of all students, thereby increasing student achievement and each student's ability to transfer and apply knowledge in the future as citizens, as well as in the present as students in our schools and community. The Newton Public Schools will meet this high standard of excellence by continuing to ensure that the K-12 curriculum offers a coherent course of study, yet remains flexible enough to allow for differentiation according to children's needs; that the diversity that exists within the school population is recognized; that teachers' judgment in making sound instructional decisions for the students they meet every day is respected; and that the school system'ss core value of respect for human differences permeates our work.

The Instructional Technology and the Library Media Programs of the Newton Public Schools are an integral part of the teaching and learning process, preparing all students to succeed as life-long learners, independent thinkers, and problem solvers.

The Instructional Technology and Library Media Programs of the Newton Public Schools strive to ensure that every student is information literate and proficient in the use of current and emerging technologies. We will provide the technological infrastructure, professional development opportunities, and staff support to enable teachers and administrators to use technology effectively in teaching and learning. Through these opportunities we will create a community of life-long learners prepared to actively participate in the evolving global society. The Library Media Program enables students to find, evaluate, use, and synthesize information, encourages an appreciation and love of literature, and stimulates intellectual curiosity. Focusing on the research process, the library media program integrates classroom instruction and curriculum in a standards-based environment.
[edit] Technology Advisory Council
Inquire, Advise, Advocate In October 2006, the Department of Information Technology invited community members and school staff to serve on an advisory committee for technology in the Newton Schools. The Technology Advisory Committee offers the school system the exciting opportunity to join the interests and values of the community with the expertise of school department professionals. The Technology Advisory Committee's role is to Inquire, Advise, Advocate.
Charter The charter of the advisory committee is to provide a vehicle for community input into the development of an updated four-year technology plan. (Newton’s current plan can be accessed at http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/technology/).
The primary focus of the advisory committee will be to research, advise and advocate for a variety of successful strategies that support teaching and student learning, allowing Newton to develop and implement the best possible technology program within current fiscal restraints.
