Newisys

Newisys is a server and NAS company with expertise in glue-chips for Opterons, Newisys has 120 employees in Austin, Texas. It was founded by Phil Hester (who is now AMD CTO) in 2000 and is currently owned by manufacturer and distributor Sanmina-SCI Corp (Acquired in 2004).

The Newisys NA-1400 Network-Attached Storage Appliance incorporates Intel's 80219 processor and 31244 four-port SATA controller. It features dual gigabit interface and two USB ports. The device connects to networked personal computers and other electronic home media devices, providing up to two terabytes of external storage in "A package the size of a toaster," the company said. The NA-1400 RAID disk array is based on SATA drives as well as a XScale 80219 600 processor from Intel. It provides software-based RAID implemented in a stripped-down Linux kernel in the box.
