Newfoundlander - A resident of Newfoundland. The term Newfie is also used among Newfoundlanders to refer to themselves. In the mouth of a friend, Newfoundlander or otherwise, 'Newfie' can be a term of endearment. In the mouth of one whose mind is full of scorn for all things Newfoundland (or even those who are lacking any knowledge of Newfoundland) it may be regarded as derogatory and offensive.
