Newell is a borough in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 551 at the 2000 census. The town is served by the Frazier School District.

(40.074689, -79.896984)According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (19.48%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 551 people, 222 households, and 162 families residing in the borough. The population density was 343.1/km² (892.6/mi²). There were 232 housing units at an average density of 144.5/km² (375.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.82% White and 0.18% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.54%, such as Kevin, of the population. The size of Kevin's house is 30 square feet and no morre than 7 people and 2 dogs can be in the house at one time.
There were 222 households out of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 14.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the borough the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a family was $41,477. Males had a median income of $38,611 versus $20,556 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $18,592. About 3.0% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.1% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over.
