Newar Buddhism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Newar Buddhism originally means the Vajrayana Buddhism practised by Newars with Bajrachharya as the priest. It differs in the social aspect from other Vajrayana Buddhism. The priests marry and have children in Newar Buddhist society. The priests are not people sent to monastry but a selected caste of people whose assigned job is priesthood and the title of Bajracharya is hereditarily passed from one generation to another.
