New Jersey SEEDS Inc., is a nonprofit, academic preparation and independent school placement program for high-achieving students from lower-income families. Fourth grade students admitted to the Young Scholars Program (Greater Newark area students only) receive two years of honors classes and leadership training. Seventh grade students admitted to the Scholars Program (statewide) receive a year of honors classes and leadership training. Eighth grade students admitted to the College Preparatory Program (Orange, NJ and Englewood, NJ) receive 4 years of honors classes and leadership training.
Students in the Young Scholars and Scholars Program receive placement assistance to attend independent secondary schools (on financial aid). Students in the College Preparatory Program receive assistance to attend competitive, 4-year colleges. SEEDS graduates have attended Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, etc.
Organizational Mission Statement:
New Jersey SEEDS (Scholars, Educators, Excellence, Dedication, Success) is a privately funded, state-wide, non-profit organization committed to educating future leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds. SEEDS scholars are highly motivated, academically talented, but financially limited. SEEDS provides opportunities for these qualified students in partnership with competitive secondary schools and prepares them to give back to their communities.

NJ SEEDS is similar to organizations such as Prep for Prep, Steppingstone, A Better Chance, etc. All of these organizations have been applauded for helping to educate individual students and have been criticized for removing the "best and brightest" from the public school system.
