New York State Route 431, Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway, is located entirely within Essex County, in the Town of Wilmington. While commonly identified with the toll road to the summit of Whiteface Mountain, it in fact ends at the tollbooths along that road, about eight miles from its starting point in the center of Wilmington. The toll road continues on almost to the summit of Whiteface Mountain.
