New York Metro

For the region, see New York metropolitan area.
Metro New York is a free daily newspaper in New York City started in 2004. Its main competition is AM New York, with which it practices many of the same distribution and marketing strategies. The daily is primarily distributed by workers paid to station themselves in areas with high pedestrian traffic, who offer the free paper to anyone who passes by. There are also similar Metro papers offered in various other American cities, such as Philadelphia and Boston which are run by the same publishing company.
That company, Swedish Metro International, is the world's leading publisher of free dailies, with 57 editions in 17 countries, including the largest-circulation papers in Paris and Rome.
