New Wave of American Grunge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Wave of American Grunge is a form of Rock and Roll formed in the mid 2000's in the Mid-Atlantic United States.

[edit] Origins

The genre originated in the Philadelphia, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey underground. It roses to underground popularity with the success of Terrestrial Radio Propaganda, and the name was coined by Terrestrial Radio Propaganda's singer and bassist Brian Capobianco who took the name from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which spawned bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Motorhead.

[edit] Comparison's to Grunge

Their are actually suttle differences between the New Wave of American Grunge and original grunge music. Musically they are very similar, most due to the "dirty" distorted guitars and synical lyrics. But the New Wave of American Grunge is much angrier and much more experimental. Most of the bands have followed the pattern started by the genre's genesis band, Terrestrial Radio Propaganda. Also their are many difference's in the scene's associated with the bands. Original grunge is heavily associated with drugs like heroin and cocaine, new wave grunge bands have strong anti-drug feelings. Also original grunge is closely associated with nihilism and being depressed, while new wave grunge is associated with cynisism and being angry. Once again the additude adopted by the whole genre is that of Terrestrial Radio Propaganda.
