New Vic Theatre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New Vic Theatre is situated in the Staffordshire market town of Newcastle-under-Lyme, and is renowned for its format of Theatre in the round.
The theatre plays host to various events throughout the year, including many plays produced in-house, as well as shows produced by touring theatre companies.
The main auditorium has a capacity of just over 600, with the audience surrounding a central stage to give a theatrical experience that can only be witnessed at a limited number of venues in the United Kingdom. Such an audience-stage formation is very popular not only in the plays hosted by the theatre, but provides an excellent experience when hosting musical events.
The theatre is very proud of its Potteries roots, and it is a keen supporter of local communities through its Borderlines campaign and other such gestures to many of the deprived areas of North Staffordshire. The pride the theatre takes in local heritage is reflected in many of its features, including the names of auditorium entrances (such as Royal Doulton), the Sentinel Bar, and the efforts to use local produce in the food served in the first floor cafeteria.
