New Utrecht High School

New Utrecht High School is a coeducational public high school in Brooklyn, New York City, serving approximately 3250 pupils. It is part of New York City Geographic District #20.
New Utrecht was founded as a boys-only school in 1915. Girls were first admitted in 1925. The school is named after New Utrecht, the first Dutch settlement in New York.
In its accountability status report for 2004-2005, New York's state education department classified New Utrecht as a 'school requiring academic progress' in mathematics, but as a 'school in good standing' for language arts and overall graduation rate.
Notable alumni include actor Jerry Ferrara, musician Tony Visconti, drummer Carmine Appice from the rock group Vanilla Fudge, record executive David Lawrence Geffen, writer Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, entrepreneur Mel Kowal, comedian Buddy Hackett, and playwright Abe Burrows.
The front and rear views of New Utrecht High School edifice are employed in opening scenes of the popular TV sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter.
