New Town Secondary School

The New Town Secondary School was set up in 1965 at Queensway, Singapore. On December 8, 1998, it was relocated to Dover, its present location.
The New Town students' uniform comprises of a blue and white combination. The blue top is described by the school's handbook as a 'Light blue safari jacket with pockets'. The bottom can be a 'white skirt with inverted pleats in the front and back' for the girls, and the boys don 'White shorts for lower secondary (1&2) and white trousers for upper secondary (3,4&5). The school's students are known by most citizens as 'smurfs' affectionately.
CCAs are an integral part of the school's education system. The aim of CCA is to provide healthy recreational activities for the students. The school claims to gear towards teaching students a skill and cultivating correct values and desirable social attitudes.
The CCAs offered by the school are; Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Sepak Takraw, Shooting Club, Soccer, Softball and Table Tennis are included in the Sports and Games CCA. Uniformed Groups consists of NCC, NPCC, Girl Guides, Scounts and St. John Ambulance Brigade. Performing/Visual Arts: Art Club, Choir, Chinese Dance, Malay Dance, Indian Dance, Modern Dance, Big Drum Club, Guzheng Club and School Band. Clubs & societies: AVA Club, Infocomm Club(formally I.T Club) and Media Resource Library.
Cca points are distributed to students who participate in their respective CCAs. Secondary 4 students who obtain 25 and above CCA points get an A1 grade, which will give them a 2 point bonus when they are presented with their O 'level examination reults. Secondary 5 students need to get 26 points and above in order to obatin an A1 score.
