New Sukhothai

Sukhothai (thai สุโขทัย) is a small modern town about 427 km (267 miles) north of Bangkok on the River Yom, a tributary of the Chao Phraya River. Population 37,000, geographical location 17°0′N, 99°51′E. The city is located 12 km to the east of the historic city of Sukhothai, which was the capital of the first Thai kingdom, usually called Sukhothai kingdom, hence the modern city is often called New Sukhothai. Sukhothai is the capital of the Sukhothai province.
