New Salem, Pennsylvania

New Salem is a borough located in York County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 648.

New Salem is located at 39°54'9" North, 76°47'35" West (39.902526, -76.793162)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. New salem lies in North Codorus township. It is a sleepy town with two streets, two pizza shows, a gas station, bar, and post office.

New Salem, or York New Salem, added the prefix York, because of a dispute between another bourough with the same name in Pennsilvania. No two bouroghs can have the same name according to the federal goverment for postal reasons. New Salem was founded by settelers from Salem, MA and from settlers from nearby York City.
