[edit] Summary
After discovering Aelita's link to the supercomputer and the inability to shut off the supercomputer that stems from it, Jeremie works hard to find new and better ways to fight XANA. To that end, he develops new vehicles for the group. He also develops a new Tower-scanning program that instantly detects activated Towers, allowing Aelita to live on Earth. While adjusting to her new life, the class takes a trip to the nearby woods for a scientific field trip. Ulrich wants to partner up with Yumi, but she's already partnered up with someone. His name is William. He comes from another school, having been expelled from it. During the field trip, Aelita and Jeremie partner up. Jeremie is forced to retrieve his laptop, leaving Aelita in the woods. With him gone, Aelita is frightened by visions of wolves, which lead her to a house known as the Hermitage. There, she has even more visions and is attacked by XANA. Once the others arrive to find her, they learn that XANA has possessed the house and uses everything in it to attack them. They find Aelita in a sauna in the basement. XANA tries to trap them all inside and boil them, but only succeeds in catching Ulrich and Yumi. Aelita and Odd head to the Factory to shut down the power before they are boiled alive.
[edit] Recap
The new season immediately starts out with some new elements. In Lyoko's Desert Sector, Ulrich and Odd are racing on two new Vehicles. Odd is riding a flying pink vehicle that appears to be a cross between a skateboard and snowboard. Ulrich, meanwhile, is driving a monocycle. The two race each other around some promontories and through a canyon before Odd wipes out and Ulrich claims victory. Yumi and Aelita approach Ulrich and Odd and the group exchanges some playful banter.
Suddenly, a cloud of sand appears and there is roaring in the distance. The sand clears and a new monster emerges. This creature is large and green with two laser cannons for forelegs. Yumi asks what it is and Aelita responds saying she has never seen it before.
Jeremie performs a diagnostic on the new monster from the Interface in the Factory. Before the gang goes into battle, Jeremie advises them that this new monster has more life points than XANA's earlier creations.
The Lyoko warriors learn that it very difficult to inflict any sort of damage on this new monster. With it’s two laser leg cannons, the creature unleashes it’s destructive power and quickly devirtulaizes the trio. Aelita uses the time her friends buy for her to get to a Tower and return to the real world via the Code EARTH. Savoring its victory, the monster squats to the ground and lets out a loud roar.
Back in the real world, the gang discusses what just occurred. If XANA is starting to program new monsters, then Jeremie is worried that their troubles may have only just begun. Odd suggests that Jeremie find a way to make the Vehicles appear faster. They also discuss the possibility that XANA is continuing to evolve. Odd deems the new monster Tarantula, citing that he likes his monsters named. A worried Aelita recommends that she should go back to Lyoko in order to keep watch. The other four decide to give her some good news.
In the past few months, Jeremie has not only been working on the new Vehicles and continuing his search for an anti-virus for Aelita, but at the same time he has perfected a whole new Scanner Program to detect activated Towers. It can instantly pick up an activated Tower, removing the need for Aelita to stay on Lyoko. The gang also reveals that they have enrolled her as a boarder at the school.
At Kadic Junior High School, Jim shows a thrilled Aelita her new dorm room. Jim stumbles with Aelita's last name, not knowing it. Aelita apparently has already gotten her first taste of Pop Culture, as she makes up a new alias for herself. She says her last name is Stones, "like the rock group." Aelita also informs Jim that that she is Odd’s cousin from Canada.
Later outside the school in a nearby municipal parking lot, Aelita prepares for her first science field trip to the city's woodland reserve with her friends. The field trip is orchestrated by Mrs. Hertz, who tells the students that they are going to construct a biodiversity scrapbook filled with drawings of plants.
Before the students enter the woodlands, Ulrich is trying to garner his courage to tell Yumi how he really feels about her. When she shows up, Ulrich equivocates and asks Yumi if she can partner up with him. He is taken aback when he discovers that Yumi has chosen to work with another student on the field trip project. Meanwhile, Sissi has formed a trio partnership with Hervé and Nicolas. Just before the two boys enter the forest, Sissi announces a change of plans and orders her partners to accompany her to the nearby Shopping Plaza. Hervé protests, asking how they will get the assignment done. Sissi snaps at him that there is a florist in the Mall and he can draw plants there.
In the woodlands, Odd and Ulrich are perched on a grassy knoll, obscured by shrubbery. Ulrich is spying on something below with his binoculars, comiserating on the fact that he and Yumi couldn't team up while Odd leans against a tree trunk, relaxing. Odd tells Ulrich that the name of the new student is William. Apparently, he was kicked out of his old school and Odd thinks that he is cool. An annoyed Ulrich spends most of time watching Yumi talk to William.
On a shaded vista Yumi and William are chatting and doodling some of the native flora. Yumi asks William if he got expelled from his old school for being a rebel, to which William laughingly replies that he got kicked out for love. When Yumi questions him as to what that means, William reveals that he plastered love posters all over his former campus.
Up on Odd and Ulrich's knoll, Ulrich tells Odd that he doesn’t know whether she likes him as more than as a friend.
In another part of the woods, Jeremie and Aelita stroll together along a path. Aelita is a bit frightened of the woodlands and worries that monsters are lurking behind the trees and underbrush. Jeremie tries to reassure her that there are no such things as monsters on Earth. The two are having a good time until Jeremie realizes that he forgot his laptop and worries about a possible attack. Aelita tells him to go back and get it. Jeremie scampers off, leaving Aelita alone on the path.
In his dorm, Jeremie is alerted to an activated Tower and a brewing attack.
Continuing on her way, Aelita begins to freak out over being alone. She then starts suffering from visions of black wolves hiding behind the bushes. Aelita believes wolves to be monsters, having never seen them before in her life. Her visions draw her to a manmade clearing that houses a builtup property. The plot consists of a condemned house and yard that are in a considerable state of disrepair. The sign on the gate reads "THE HERMITAGE"
Aelita enters the foyer. The interior of the Hermitage is a shambles with broken furniture and papers all over the floor. She begins to have visions of a mysterious old man in a lab coat playing the piano. She is overwhelmed when he turns around to stare at her. Aelita then screams out when XANA's black gaseous ghost comes at her from behind.
A worried Jeremie alerts the rest of the gang about Aelita being missing. He tells the group that he left Aelita on the Red Path. Kiwi, whom Odd brought along for company, leads Ulrich, Yumi, and Odd to the Hermitage. When the three enter the abandoned house, the door slams and immediately locks behind them. XANA then starts to attack them with old furniture and appliances, launching them as projectiles at the gang. Yumi suspects that the corrupt Supercomputer is purposely leading them somewhere. They discover an unconscious Aelita lying on the floor in the Sauna in the Cellar. She awakens and reveals that XANAs attacks were all part of his plan to lure and then trap them in this room. Odd races to the closing door and struggles to hold it for everybody, but only he and Aelita are able to get out of the room in time. Yumi and Ulrich are trapped as XANA sets the furnace to overheat and boil them alive. Much to the shock of Odd, Aelita’s vision helps them find a secret entrance behind a vent that leads down to the municipal sewers.
Meanwhile, as the dangerous heat continues to rise, the two trapees begin to sweat and become sleepy at the effects of the sauna. Ulrich has stripped off his jacket and T-shirt, leaving him half-naked. Yumi has not removed her shirt, however, despite sweating profusely. Ulrich tells her that he doesn't mind and tells Yumi he won't look. Yumi removes her overshirt revealing her pink bra. She backs up against Ulrich and touches him with the backstrap.
Odd and Aelita are virtualized into Lyoko so that they can deactivate a Tower in the Ice Barrier Sector, but Jeremie reveals to them that there are two Tarantulas guarding the Tower. Riding on the Overwing (a previously unseen Vehicle that looks like a metallic scooter), Aelita lures one of the Tarantulas away from the Tower. Aelita falls to the ground after the Tarantula shoots her Vehicle and devirtualizes it with one hit. She begins running, but stops when the creature corners her on the edge of a cliff.
In the Hermitage's Furnace Room, Ulrich asks Yumi about her relationship with William. She reveals that there is nothing going on and they are just friends, but Ulrich passes out before he can hear her answer.
Riding on his Overboard, Odd rises up from the edge and destroys the Tarantula. Odd then distracts and lures the other monster away in order for Aelita to enter the Tower.
As she is deactivating it, Yumi finally succumbs to the heat and passes out.
Jeremie presses the key to return to the past.
At the main gate to the city forest, Sissi turns in her assignment to Mrs. Hertz. The teacher stares at the doodle pad and asks, "You found an Amazonian Yucca in our woods??" Sissi replies saying that it wasn't easy. Mrs. Hertz says, "Well it willb be much easier grading your work. ZERO!"
Near the arches on the Quad the gang discusses Aelita’s visions and Yumi states that this is going to be another mystery that they will have to solve. Aelita says that the images seemed familiar, like she has seen them before in a dream. Jeremie then presents Aelita with a pink cell phone to match to match her hair. With it, she'll never lose contact with them again. She hugs Jeremie and the episode ends.
[edit] Memorable Quotes
- (Spying on Yumi and William)

- Yumi: Hey, what's that? (points to an oncoming monster)
- Ulrich: I don’t know, but it looks like trouble. Big time!
- Aelita: I've never seen a monster like that one before. XANA must have just created it.
- Jeremie: In any case, it says here that it's got more life points than the others!
- Ulrich: (rehearsing) Okay! Yumi, there is something I have to tell you. No, that doesn’t sound right. Umh, Yumi! There is something serious, you and I have to talk about. No, she'll freak out if I say that. Wait! Yumi, you and I have to... (he turns around) YUMI!
- Aelita: (to the Tarantulas) Well my little monster friends... didja miss me?
- Mrs. Hertz: (to Sissi) You found an Amazonian Yucca, here in our woods?
- Sissi: Uh, yeah... and it wasn't easy either.
- Mrs. Hertz: Is that so? Well, I think it’s going to be much easier grading your work. ZERO!
- William: I wouldn't really call myself a rebel. I'm just a little rebellious.
- (Ulrich's been spying on Yumi and William for most of the field trip)
- Odd: (to Ulrich) I don’t think I have to remind you that we haven't done a single drawing since we got here. I don’t even want to think about the grade we’re going to get.
- Hervé: Hey Sissi, where are you going? The woods are this way.
- Sissi: Yes, but the stores are that way.
- Hervé: But, we're supposed to draw plants.
- Sissi: There's a florist in the shopping center.
[edit] Trivia
[edit] Cinematic Notes
- When Aelita dropped her notebook, the cover isn't visible, but when Kiwi finds it, the cover is visible.
- In "False Start", Aelita was the tallest member of the gang and had green eyes. In this episode, she is shorter than Yumi and has regular black eyes.
- Jeremie claims that the Tarantula causes 20 points of damage per hit, but Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi were both devirtualized in less than five shots. (According to www.codelyoko.fr, the Tarantula deals 30 damage, not 20.)
[edit] Allusions to the Real World
- "Hermitage" is the name of the house found in the woods.
At least two different famous homes bear the name "The Hermitage".
One is a cottage like Gothic Revival home built in 1847-48. It is a house Museum in New Jersey. The building looks like the one in the show.
The other famous home named "The Hermitage" is President Andrew Jackson's home.
- Aelita: Aelita Stones, like the rock group.
Aelita seems to be referencing the British rock band, The Rolling Stones. (edit)
