[edit] History

During the hot, humid summer months of 1921, a Holy Ghost-filled lady by the name of Lydia Baggett prevailed upon her husband, Bill, to invite a Pentecostal preacher to come and preach a meeting in the North End of town. So it was that Bro. Fogelmann, assisted by several gospel workers including Sister Betty Dyess, began preaching under the trees at the end of Gulf, on Pope Street, in Beaumont. Revival was born, and the work grew. Thus, the first oneness Pentecostal church of Beaumont was born.

As the church continued to grow, with people receiving the Holy Ghost during prayer meetings in the saints' homes, it was obvious that a full-time pastor was needed. In 1922, Rev. Benny Baggett became the first pastor of the church to continue to burn the fire of the Holy Ghost in Beaumont.

In 1944, a well-respected pioneer of the gospel, Rev. R. D. Gibson arrived in Beaumont to carry the torch. For next twenty-five years, Pastor Gibson led the First Pentecostal Church. In 1951, the church built a new sanctuary on Pope street, which still remains today. The grandson of the late Rev. R. D. Gibson, Rev. Anthony Mangun, currently serves as the Senior Pastor of the Pentecostals of Alexandria

In November 1969, God sent a young evangelist, Rev. Lonnie Charles Treadway and his wife to Beaumont to carry the torch. Under their leadership, we have witnessed tremendous growth, miracles and an outpouring of the spirit. Some planted, some watered, and God continues to give the increase. Pastor Treadway has kept the fire burning.

In 1976, the church moved its location from the north end of Beaumont to our current location at State Highway 105 (Texas). Although the location has changed, and the members of the congregation have shifted into a new generation, the same fire is still burning at 6655 Highway 105, Beaumont, TX. In 21st century, New Life Tabernacle pledges to keep the fire burning. The New Life Tabernacle has recently been tore down, and all that is remaining is a crude pavilion made up of the skeleton of the actually building.
