Route 87 is a state highway in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It runs 1.70 miles, heading north from Atlantic City at an intersection with U.S. Route 30 to Brigantine, where it terminates at the end of the Brigantine Bridge, after crossing the Absecon Channel. After crossing the channel, the road's designation changes to County Route 638 (Brigantine Boulevard). Road access to Brigantine is provided solely by Route 87.
Some maps show Route 87 continuing all the way into Brigantine, but the designation in fact terminates at the end of the north side of the bridge. Route 87 together with the Atlantic City-Brigantine Connector provides quick and easy access to Brigantine.

Prior to the 1953 renumbering, what is now Route 87 was designated Route S4A, a spur of Route 4. The original plans for Route S4A had it being a bypass of what was then Route 4 (now U.S. Route 9) extending from Atlantic City to Tuckerton. However, the portion from Brigantine to the Atlantic-Ocean county line was never built, and the segment in Ocean County was given back to the county, resulting in the shorter alignment now known as Route 87.
