Route 181 is a 7.47-mile (12.02 km) state highway in New Jersey, United States, running along an old alignment of Route 15 through Sparta. It begins in Jefferson Township at an interchange with Route 15, where that road changes from a divided surface road to a freeway. After entering Sparta Township, it passes Blue Heron Drive, which interchanges with Route 15 just east of Route 181, and then heads north through downtown Sparta, ending at Route 15 at the north end of its freeway.
[edit] History
The road that is now Route 181 was taken over after 1941 as Route 6A, renumbered to Route 15 in the 1953 renumbering. The new Route 15 freeway opened in 1974, and the old alignment was designated Route 181.
