New Hyde Park Memorial Jr/Sr High School is a Public High school in New Hyde Park, New York. It, like the four other high schools in its district, goes from grades 7 to 12, making it like a combined middle school and high school. Current enrollment in the school is 1,655 students.
In terms of racial ethnicity, 57% are White, 29% are Asian/Pacific Islander, 11% are Hispanic and 4% are Black. The attendance rate of the school is 96%. The student per teacher ratio is 15:1. Concerning the educational levels of the teachers in the school, 16% have a Bachelor's degree, 82% have a Master's degree, and 3% have a Doctorate degree.
The school held its 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, June 4, 2006. The principal is currently Mrs. Loretta S. Nugent, with assistant principals Mr. Michael DeMartino and Mrs. Maria Hecht. The school mascot is the Gladiator, and its colors are blue and white.
The school has classes in various areas of music, english, technology, business, math, science, social studies, and languages. New renovations added new lockers, and updated other facilities over the summer of 2006.
There are various clubs and sports in the school. Sports run from September to June and there are many options. Theatrical groups include the school musical, and then there is the drama club the "Scenici Players." One musical is performed, and two plays are also set up over each school year.
For other performing groups there are the kickline; "The Romanettes", the Step Team, the Twirlers, and the JH, JV, and V cheerleaders. There are two pep rallies every year.
