New Grey Whistle Test
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New Grey Whistle Test is a new internet version of the BBC show the Old Grey Whistle Test, created in 2004 it is currently in its third season. The show acts as a visual platform for unsigned bands and singer/songwriters and tries to convey the spirit and ethos of the original programme.
The New Grey Whistle Test carries on from the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test that gave an important media platform to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Simply Red, John Lennon, Dr Hook, and countless others. The programme was originally presented by Richard Williams but probably the most memorable presenter was Bob Harris, (nicknamed "Whispering Bob", due to his quiet voice and "laid back" style). Bob Harris was the longest serving presenter from 1972 to 1978, he was originally a DJ on Radio 1. Other presenters included, Annie Nightingale, David Hepworth, Mark Ellen, Andy Kershaw and Richard Skinner.
The New Grey Whistle Test gives that same, much needed platform to new bands and solo artists to visually promote new music using today's technology, the Internet.
