New Educational College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
New Educational College (NEC) is a private secondary school in Bel Air Riviere Seche, Mauritius.
Forty five years of toil, perseverance, unrelenting desire to fight ignorance and to bring the light of education to the masses, especially in Bel Air, Rivière Sèche and the surrounding villages: this is the history of New Educational College, founded in 1961 in a socio-economic background characterized by low income, a rural society and high illiteracy. The school has contributed enormously to the education and upliftment of the inhabitants in this part of the country.
More than eight thousand pupils have stepped into the school since its debut and they certainly bear the imprint of the education dispensed to them. Operating within the broader legal and educational framework of the country, the school has forged its own image as a dispenser of an education with comprehensive academic, utilitarian, social and moral goals. Apart from teaching Science, Mathematics, Commercial and Technical subjects we give special attention to the artistic, social and moral development of the child. The pupil is given ample space for artistic creativity and expression. In addition to providing an Art room, we have created a music department with fully equipped rooms for Indian Classical Music (Sitar), Indian Classical Dance (Kathak) and Western Music (Saxophone, Guitar and Flute). This is in line with our policy of creating a convivial school environment and providing the base for cultural development. Music and dance are natural to the life of children as humming to the bee and as dancing is to the peacock .
Within the moral education curriculum, we have emphasized personality development as a major item. Amongst other things, personality development includes self-esteem, self-confidence, social etiquettes and communication.
The school is known for its discipline and it is geared to provide quality education. We strive to keep pace with high educational standards and to respond to the ever changing demands of socio-economic norms. We are operating within a fast changing social and political environment. The mushrooming of state colleges represent a serious threat to private colleges. The latter can rely only on their handiness and innovative spirit. These qualities have been ever present at New Educational College and has guaranteed its growth and success.
We are thankful to the parents who have put their confidence in our school and to the members of the teaching and non-teaching staff, past and present, who have contributed to the uplifting of the school.
