[edit] Rob West (St. Catharines)

West was president of the St. Catharines and District Labour Council in the 1980s, and spoke before a legislative committee in this capacity to oppose "no-fault" automobile insurance. He has also described himself as an owner-coordinator.[1]

He received 5,566 votes (20.04%) in the 1987 election, finishing second against Liberal incumbent Jim Bradley.

West later ran for the federal New Democratic Party in the 1988 Canadian election, and finished third in the federal St. Catharines riding with 12,260 votes (25.45%). The winner was Ken Atkinson of the Progressive Conservative Party.

As of 2005, West is a representative of the Service Employees International Union, Local 1.ON. He has spoken out against health-care cuts in the St. Catharines area.[2]
