Nevada Senate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nevada Senate is the upper house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature of U.S. state of Nevada. The Senate consists of 21 members from 19 constituencies (two are multimember), with each Senator representing a population of around 94,700 inhabitants (2000 figures). Senators serve four-year terms without term limits.
Like other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the federal U.S. Senate, the Senate can confirm or reject gubernatorial appointments to the state cabinet, commissions and boards.
The Senate meets at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City.

[edit] Leadership of the Senate
The President of the Senate retains the highest rank over the house, but only casts a vote if a legislative tie is in place. The Lieutenant Governor of Nevada serves as Senate President. In their absense, the President Pro Tempore presides to make commission and committee appointments. The President Pro Tempore is elected to the position by the majority party or a majority of votes. The other partisan Senate leadership positions, such as the Majority and Minority leaders, are (usually) elected by their respective party caucuses to head their parties in the chamber.
The President of the Senate is Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki of the Republican Party. The President Pro Tempore is Mark E. Amodei of the Capital Senate District (Carson City). The Majority Leader is William J. Raggio of Washoe District 3 (Reno). The Minority Leader is Democrat Dina Titus of Clark District 7 (Las Vegas).
