[edit] Johnson, Christopher Amos

Hi, I see you deleted this article in response to my speedy deletion notice. Thanks, but.. could you restore the article? I have been discussing this with the author on the talk page and I think this needs to go to AfD given the author's objection. I expect that the AfD will result in the re-deletion of the page, but I want to give its author a fair chance to improve his article. Thanks, Gwernol 21:43, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Persia national anthem

Why did you deleted the page and reverted the page to salamatie shah? The page title should not be salamatie shah. So it either must be moved or redirected. Mahanchian 20:12, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

[edit] Jim Davis article

Hi - What exactly are you looking for? The election results tables are bold because the first character in the tables is "!" (which means this is a header, i.e. bold) rather than "|". I'm not sure what you mean by condensing them so they're stacked in a grid. -- Rick Block (talk) 17:20, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Agapetos Arbitration

I'm sorry to spam your talk page, but this seemed serious enough to directly put on your talk page. I have evidence that AiG has actively had employees push their POV on the AiG page and possibly on related pages. I have added a new evidence section in the Agapetos arbitration to that effect, explaining the evidence. Due to the very serious nature of this accusation and its possible implications for Wikipedia, I decided to directly alert all of the ArbCom members. JoshuaZ 01:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

JoshuaZ retracted this in evidence because it was erroneous, but failed to mention it on your talk page. agapetos_angel 07:17, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
That's highly inaccurate. I qualified the evidence in question. The user wasn't an employee but was specifically asked by an employee. See my evidence section and Standon's for details, and Agapetos, please don't put words in my mouth. JoshuaZ JoshuaZ 13:49, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Military history WikiProject Newsletter, Issue I

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter
Issue I - March 2006
Project news
From the Coordinators

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Military history WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this new format will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new groups and programs within the project that they may wish to participate in.

Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months.

Kirill Lokshin, Lead Coordinator

Current proposals
  • Proposed guidelines for categories of military people are currently being discussed. A number of issues have already been resolved, but the proposed scheme is still in draft form and further input would be very welcome.

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

[edit] Situation of administrator abuse

Hi, I'm in a potentially awkward position with an Administrator. I have read the Wiki pages on dispute resolution but I'm still not sure how to proceed.

The Admin ContiE has a personal grudge against me for reasons I do not fully understand. He has been this way since I began frequenting wikipedia.

I have done work improving the furvert article. He has basically gone on a crusade against any edit I make. He controls every furry category article and several others ruthlessly. He is an iron fist and bans anyone he edit wars with. I had uploaded pictures and he deleted them with no talking. He seems to believe I am every person he has had an edit war against. He is always using personal attacks, calling me troll without reason. I uploaded them again and he voted them for deleted, but to his surprise the person who runs the images, thank you Nv8200p, found they were acceptable once I tagged them properly. Just recently he removed both the images without himself discussing it in the talk page (unless he was the same person who discussed only one) with the edit here [1] Then ContiE assumed bad faith, added his constant insult of troll in the talk page. It appears on a completed different wiki, a comedy one in all things, somebody else stole my username and I believe this was Conti himself and uploaded them. ContiE showed it as his reason. While vandalism like his, I would revert and mention it, he would ban me permanently if I undid his edit. That is why I am asking admins for help. He holds a couple of accounts on wikipedia and I think they are administrators so I have to be careful who I tell about this. Arights 06:18, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dynabee neutral or marketing by a nsd person? abuse?

Please look at dynabee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynabee) i'm bad in English and also on wiki but its should not be a problem to find the neutral info for this part i think. because now its abbused for marketing of nsd brand again and again talking bad about other brands Ore deleting other brands as gyrotwister ironpower and so on this through Dimitri?! Because i have no time and my English is very bad my own contributions to that are not that good!!! sorry But its important to have neutral info and also the correct info on Wikipedia i think. A couple of Lawsuites has been there all positive for dynabee (nsd persons had to place rectifications for their sayings before and these things are also happenening on wikipedia in the name of Dimitri why?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Dynabee

See info neutral http://www.powerballeu.com/powerballdynabeeuitvinding.pdf in german and http://www.aiaa-houston.org/newsletter/feb01/feb01.pdf page 5 prove of the dates. waybackmachine and ofcourse the patents themselves.

[edit] Please come up with some award like the Purple Heart

But not the actual award. Think about it! It often is given for some horribly agonizing injuries suffered by good men and women in the service of the US military. Can't we use something else? I don't think its continued uses says much for our sensitivity to other people's pain. Sure, we use the word in the course of everyday conversation, but let's not trivialize it. No amount of Wiki "pain" and "suffering" can even approach what I've actually seen in the lives of some of these people. Consider our own article (that I assisted in developing), for example on Lewis Puller the triple amputee son of Marine, Chesty Puller who, despite his best efforts, couldn't overcome his Vietnam war wounds or the other scars that experience gave him. [edit] HLTA

Dear Ben

I'm not one to usually go against authority. It's what holds most societies together. However, I believe that your unjust deletion of my own Mother's FIRST wikipedia entry WITHOUT leaving a reason has now left her reserved to contributing again.

I would be grateful if you contacted her to explain your reasons, and therefore restore my faith in this system.

Having looked at your user page, I noticed you have never been to the United Kingdom, thus have you any knowledge of the subject in question? For many Teaching assistants in Britain, this is a way for them to foreward their professional development. My Mother went through it and she knows how it all works out.

So give her a chance! She's only a novice to this site.

Yours sincerly
Daniel Hocking, Par, Cornwall

[edit] Confused about anon ip tale page blanking

Still learning, and so wondering why you wanted to blank the history of an AOL IP, on User talk:205.188.116.7. Also, do you know if there is a 'standard' of grouping all the bad edits together under a month section header, like I did? [edit] John Glenn High School

I see that you deleted the article on JGHS. I remember reading it a while back and finding it accurate, although not over-flowing with detail. Could you let me know why you deleted it? I would greatly appreciate an email at rdcogy(at)gmail.com or cogy(at)nyu.edu - it was my high school and I think it's better to have the old information available than nothing at all. I hope you will also restore the article. I do not have this option and I don't wish to create an account to do this one edit.

I realize you may have deleted the article in response to vandalism (as I said, I can't restore the article or see its history). In this case, I hope you will restore it to the last usable edition.

If necessary, I will submit more expansive content for you as a member to put in its place. Thanks for your time,

[edit] Arb Case Mistake

Hi, im confused about something said in a report on the Arbirition case against me.

In this report, it states that i had warred on Gothic Metal, and been placed on Probation. It also says i violated WP:CITE. I want to know how this came about, when both myself and User:Parasti provided diffs to me citing sources. It also says this as a 'finding of fact'. In which case, here is the speficic sections which falsly accuse me of not providing sources, and the evidence that supported this, and the accompnying diffs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Leyasu#Failure_to_cite_sources_and_original_research

Finding Of Fact Contrary To Provided Diffs

Diff from Evidence, Diff from Evidence, Diff from Evidence, taken from Parasti's Evidence. Diff from Evidence, taken from [Evidence] Diff from Evidence, taken from Leys Evidence. Diff from Evidence, Diff from Evidence taken from Leys Evidence Diff from Evidence, Diff from Evidence, taken from Leys Evidence

I even went as far as to quoting and explaining the sources on the talk page, [2].

I got all these diffs from the archive of the Arbirition case, Here.

I just want to know why all eight claimed i provided no sources, even though another involved party provided diffs of me providing sources, and i repeatedly gave diffs of me supplying sources. Im not having a go, im just confused how 8 Arbirrators managed to claim a 'finding of fact' despite over 10 diffs from two different users =\ Ley Shade 15:03, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!

  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.

[edit] regarding "civility"

I was disgusted, but not terribly surprised, to see that six members of the Arbitration Committee -- Dmcdevit, Fred Bauder, JamesF/James D. Forrester, Sean Barrett/The Epopt, Charles Matthews and Jayjg -- condone hate speech and hateful epithets directed at the mentally disabled, and consider condemnation of that hate speech to be unacceptable behavior on Wikipedia -- behavior, in fact, so unacceptable that they say they find it a compelling reason to punish me.

I was a bit more surprised when an earlier form of this letter (differing only in describing the status of the pending arbitration, aside from this paragraph) was banned without explantion from the Wikipedia mailing list where such topics could supposedly be discussed. But I was appalled when discussions on that list, regarding a named editor, turned to open derision of the editor's supposed emotional/mental impairments, and that one Arbitration Committee member participated in the abuse.

As someone who has been involved for more than thirty years, professionally and nonprofessionally, in attempting to protect and to advance the rights of the mentally disabled, and as someone who for many years has served, and continues to serve as a guardian for such disabled members of my community. I find the use of such epithets grossly offensive; they are clearly inconsistent with Wikipedia's supposed commitment to civility. They form no part of civil discourse in any circumstances. They are particularly deserving of condemnation because they are directed toward, in very real terms attack, and have the greatest tendency to injure, a class of people who are less able, sometimes unable, to defend themselves, to resist the impact, or to respond on equal terms. [And, as a note to the politically correct, it is for that reason that I will not use the abominable term "mentally challenged," because it denies (sometimes grossly minimizes) the imbalances of social power that inhere in the relationships between the mentally disabled and the "unchallenged" elements of any community.]

It should be no secret, no obscure facet of social fabric, that the mentally disabled, particularly the mentally retarded, are at greater risk than almost any other segment of a society. More likely to be the victims of physical attacks. More likely to be neglected by governments, particularly when their needs are greatest. In the relatively rare instances when they have substantial assets, they are more likely to have their assets stolen, particularly at the hands of those actors on whom a government has conferred power over them. They are more likely to be degraded and exploited by industries which purport to protect them and to serve their interests. More like to be the victims of sexual assaults, particularly of organized, group sexual assaults.

The casual use of such hateful epithets does not only harm the individuals it targets. It causes pain, often great pain to many others. It regularly inflicts pain on those with brothers and sisters, with parents, with children, with friends, with acquaintances, even with clients, who are abused and dehumanized by such behavior. It regularly inflicts pain on so many of those who deal, day by day, with lesser mental and emotional impairments, whether they choose to acknowledge those impairments, publicly or privately, or not.

I am quite proud that a self-styled community which apparently condones such behavior and condemns opposition to it finds me such a danger to it and its values that it is preparing to forcibly separate me from it. Nothing I have contributed to this curious place makes me more proud, and I doubt anything else could.

[edit] User Jayjg's revert war at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Israel

This is not a formal complaint, but I would like to informally draw the attention of some members of the arbitration committee to the behavior of user Jayjg, an arbitration committee member at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Israel and its talk page. There is a dispute about the inclusion of a description of a translating group. Jayjg has removed the description I added on (10:12, May 8, 2006), (10:19, May 7, 2006), (23:19, May 5, 2006) Jayjg and other times. While the article is not heavily edited, there is certainly no consensus that the description should be removed, nor has Jayjg supported his reasoning for removing it after being challenged to do so by myself and another editor. I think that as a member of the arbitration committee Jayjg should be held to an even higher standard than at-large editors. TopRank 01:59, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Neutrality

I've seen my seed page on a ranking proposal has been deleted (first proposed apparently by Zoe, then by you, don't know if it was in the same process, but that was speedy...). Then I've seen you redirected the historical part. Maybe you could give a quick advice as I'm a newbie as to how display the placings of the tournament (which are based on RSSSF sources) though some placings are controversial and proposing a ranking largely close to the official rules. The aim of the page is also to provide these data in a synpotic way and allow researchers to reconstitute how CBF came to their ranking figures (this is unavailable AFAIK). Dear Mediators Emeriti:

I'm writing to all former/inactive mediators (now called "Mediators Emeriti" to emphasize the ability of any mediator to return at will to active participation on the Committee), to encourage each of you to share your wisdom and experience on the Committee by commenting on requests by new individuals to join the Committee.

The current Committee respects and appreciates the time you spent on the Committee, and the insight you can provide, and encourages you to take part in these discussions. Additionally, any mediator emeritus who has the time and would like to return to active mediation would be welcomed with great enthusiasm.

Yours respectfully, Essjay (TalkConnect) 02:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

(I recognize that many of you left the Committee to go on to other responsibilities, particularly Arbitration and the Board, but we still welcome your input on new committee members and encourage your participation. Please don't feel guilty if you cannot participate; we just want to remind everyone that they are welcome to do so.)

[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:57, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

It seems that we have something in common. Though I could be more helpful with this tool if I was an admin. ;) Kevin Baastalk 16:46, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Doddsquad.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Doddsquad.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. tomf688 (talk - email) 04:42, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Supposed ban of User:Richard Sears

I was wondering why User:Richard Sears received a ban. According to the notice itself, a ban is put into place "by decision of Jimbo Wales, the Arbitration Committee, and/or a consensus of administrators". Could I see where this consensus or decision is located? I don't even think these decisions to completely BAN a user could be reached in 1 minute (time between block and the time the notice was placed.) The notice also recommends that one "consult the Banning policy before commenting or unblocking." This arbitrary block is in clear violation of this policy. Until you can prove it, I am going to remove this notice from his page. Thank you. Kyle Bennett 23:06, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I see how it is Mr. Neutrality. Instead of giving a useful response to User:Kyle Bennett you just block him and let another user revert User:Richard Sears's user page back to your false block statement. Not so much "neutrality", is it? When administrators just block people they disagree with to shut them up and falsely accuse them of things that they didn't do, no wonder there are so many "Willys on Wheels" and "Wikipedia is Communisms" vandalizing Wikipedia! Gordon Moore 03:10, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question about NPOV

Hello, I see you are "The neutralmost arbitrator" so I'm writing to you. I had a question about the NPOV policy, regarding a georaphical and historical article. There is a territory in Africa disputed by hutus and tutsis. The land was invaded years ago by hutus and tutsis had to leave in order to survive. Many years after that, tutsis re-take the pice of land for a brief period of time and then lose it again. Finnaly the hutus keep the territory. If the territory had tow names in English, one being a transliteration of hutu language and the other the tutsi language, is it fair to mention both names, even if not writing the tutsi name bold but italics? Should the point of view of the local (hutu) people recive much attention or only the international views? if it should, should the tutsi point of view recive a simmilar-lenght space?
I looked in WP:POV and WP:NPOV but couldn't find anything about this type of sittuation, and I'd really appreciate if you could tell me what should I do. —Argentino (talk/cont.) 02:03, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

To say the truth that was only a hypotetical possible problem between african people, but the question was inspired by a very similar issue here. Anyway, thank you very much for the reply. —Argentino (talk/cont.) 13:04, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jayjg new revert war at Ahmadinejad and Israel

I would like you to take a look at the removal by Jayjg of a section in the article. [4] This section was first inserted in mid April, when the speech was widely reported internationally. Jayjg removed it not only without suggesting an alternative, but did not make any mention of the fact that he had removed it in the discussion section. That major change was first discussed after two reversions by other people when I brought it up in the discussion section. I restored it to the state it had existed for six weeks pending a compromise being reached in discussion but it was reverted by a different user. I removed all quotations except one so that the section fit better with the others. Jayjg reverted that also.[5] I find this behavior offensive from anyone, especially an arbcom member. TopRank 16:47, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

The section in question was just a near verbatim reproduction of an uninteresting speech by Ahmadinejad; as part of a cleanup of the article I removed it and explained clearly why in my edit summary. It was subsequently moved to Wikiquote. The removal has also been discussed at length on the Talk: page. None of that constitutes "Jayjg new revert war", and your spamming of this duplicate message on the Talk: page of every single ArbCom member is highly disruptive. Jayjg (talk) 17:15, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

I've reverted your edit to William J. Jefferson. If you'll check the sources cited in the body of the article, you'll see that the Democratic Caucus voted to present a proposal for removal to the full House on Thursday. The full House voted on Friday. Only the House as a whole has the power to strip a committee assignment. In case you believe the sources in the article are ambiguous, I found this from the Indianapolis Recorder[6]: "The entire 201-member caucus was set to vote on the issue June 15. If the Caucus passes the motion for the removal of Jefferson, the action will be taken to the floor for a full House vote." --MikeJ9919 23:18, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I am sending this message to serious contributors who may be interested in articles related to U.S. politics. [edit] RE: Johnny Lee Clary - Please help

Hey there, my name is Nick, my username is Potters house and I have encountered a problem with trying to provide any information about Johnny Lee Clary. I have posted this post off to other staff members also. I am not sure if this is the best route to resolve this, but can think of no other way.

The article Johnny Lee Clary has been deleted. I have known Johnny through telephone conversations and email for a short time now (about 3-4 months). He recently came and shared his life story in for our church group for the first time just two weeks ago. Before I met Johnny I became interested in his story i.e. his conversion from the head of the KKK in the US, to being a Christian Minister who now teaches against race hate groups. I found the article Johnny Lee Clary as it still is today, deleted, except for some small talk. If you read the talk you see what I have said at the time (notice I have gotten no reply, probable my fault as I don’t know heaps about WIKI policy). From my understanding Johnny Lee Clary was posting as The KingOfDixie and looks like he tried to change a few things on Wiki concerning the KKK. While this is a controversial subject, Johnny being the former leader of the KKK would probably know a thing or two and be able to contibute, but that’s another story. He eventually made an article about himself i.e. Johnny Lee Clary. Johnny being quite new to Wiki and ignorant of rules of conduct found himself at odds with some admins and had his site deleted.

Whilst observing Johnny over the last 3-4 months I have noticed that he is very outspoken against race hate groups such as the Neo Nazis, Skinheads, KKK etc. This, more often than not, lands Johnny in the hot seat. He has experienced persecution from racist groups for his departure from the KKK and voiced opinions against these racist organizations on his webpage, www.xkkk.org. Johnny has also received multiple death threats.

Because of his bold stance against these racist groups Johnny has become accustomed to hatred directed at him by those same groups. Johnny concluded that perhaps the guy who deleted the page Johnny Lee Clary was a white supremist. I am hoping to clear this up. Before he told me this, I started to create J L Clary, after hearing nothing from posting in user talk on Johnny Lee Clary's article. I wasn't 10 minutes into the J L Clary article when it was issued a deletion notice, and then before I had time to reply (about 5 minutes) it was deleted! I was amazed. I told this to Johnny and he said the main reason he was told that he couldn't have an article was because he was not prominent enough.

Johnny has a very famous testimony and has been on multiple TV shows like Oprah, Donahue, Jerry Springer, etc, and even recently when he preached in our town he made front page news, a double spread on his life, and the local ABC interviewed him live, which is not bad for our town (LISMORE NSW Australia) See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history .

When David Wilkerson came to our town hardly anyone knew or cared, yet David Wilkerson is allowed an article (and rightfully so), but more people know of Johnny. As to whether he is famous or not, just Google search him and see all the TV interviews and radio interviews he does. He hangs with some of the most prominent Christian leaders in Australia. Besides this, just being the former KKK leader should be enough for an article (he doesn't even get a mention in the KKK one, and would be deleted). He was also a Pro Wrestler. So he is prominent in Christian circles, he is prominent amongst race hate groups, and he is also prominent in the WWE wrestling.

Johnny asked me to test the waters for him to see if he was being persecuted by someone from a race hate group. So I created some sites, John Clary Wade Watts and Operation Colorblind - the name of Johnny's Ministry. These have been fine until yesterday. I cannot understand why these sites are just issued a deletion notice? Just because they mention JLC? I was hoping to discuss these things but they are just deleted. The one on Wade Watts is about a black gospel preacher who was one of the leaders in the civil rights movement in the US and was good friends with Martin Luther King. He took Johnny Clary under his wing and even ordained Johnny as a minister (to this day Johnny is the only white man ordained in the All Black Baptist Church). But his article is up for deletion because I mentioned Clary and had a link.

That is why I am writing to you to see if you can help. It seems to me that the person(s) deleting all articles which even mention Johnny Lee Clary has an agenda. I thought that wikipedia admins had to keep a neutral stance on every article. It seems like this guy has a vendetta against JLC. Why delete the Wade Watts article. That is guilt by association and could be proof that all deletions are because of racial discrimination! I hope this is not the case and would think that it is politically motivated, as Johnny is a strong supporter of George Bush and Antaeus Feldspar of Kerry.

See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history This shows how Antaeus Feldspar supports Kerry, which is fine, but Johnny is a strong supporter of Bush.

My hope is that Johnny will be able to have an article like any other famous person, minister, former KKK leader, or pro wrestler, and that Johnny and anyone connected with him and his ministry will in future have certain rules set in place that do not allow the wholesale deletion of the articles associated with him, but that they will be at least discussed.

I thank you for reading this long winded post. I have only been using WIKI for about a year myself so I need your help, I don't really know what else to do. I hope you can help. I personally think that Johnny's story is one that is beneficial to the cause of reconciliation between races and to the3 unity of society as a whole. It would be a shame if WIKI became known for having covert racists. Of course I hope that this is a misunderstanding and that all will be cleared up soon.

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

[edit] Tropico screenshot

Just to mention that your Tropico screenshot has today been eaten by OrphanBot because you didn't specify fair use information, a couple of years ago. If you've got a moment and are interested, it'd be good to have this supplied and the image restored - the Tropico article is currently the gaming collaboration article of the week, and I don't know how likely it is that any fans of the game will still have it installed. Thanks! --McGeddon 15:04, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Kerrycrew.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kerrycrew.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 19:29, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:KerryLacross.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:KerryLacross.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 19:44, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Boston Tea Party

Howdy, I noticed that you and I seem to post in one or two articles dealing with progressive issues in political science/sociology. There's currently a debate beginning in Boston Tea Party as to whether the article should include the category [11]. It meets definitions set in the articles Terrorism and Definition of terrorism, however, there are several self-proclaimed patriots who watch BTP who refuse to recognise the fact. The simple criteria for terrorism generally seem to be intimidation or destruction of property in order to change public policy or public opinion while a state of war has not yet been declared. Some users would rather use recent acts of terrorism as a yardstick, rather than using a firm definition, and hence lose their ability to discuss matters calmly. Would you be able to pop in to the Talk page and join in the discussion? Thanks much, samwaltz 05:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Bobby_Fischer.gif

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Arbitration and Help

[edit] Request for arbitration and help

(a) I have been accused of "sockpuppetry". This is totally unjust. I am not the same as any ot the Wikipedia-editors to whom I have been linked. I seek an arbiter who will listen to reason and logic. Contributors named Bioinformaticist, M&M Peace (i think), Philly Student...they are not I, at all --I do not know who they are, I vow as if in court! (b) Why are articles (bios of living people) on Marion Cohen, Roberta Wenocur, Elaine Zanutto, Linda Zhao, and other female mathematicians being held to standards different from male mathematicians like Herbert Wilf, Dennis DeTurck, &c .? (c) What is the problem with the corp, Daniel H. Wagner Associates? (d) All right, maybe articles need improvement, but deletion? and some with prompt deletion? (e) Wikipedia should be fun, not so contentious.

Please help. I want to be nice, but it is difficult when being unjustly accused and bulliied.

I hope you are understanding, and believe me. I am not lying. This is the truth.

Howdy! A few days back I noticed the article silver mining, which you created, in the special:newpages log and nominated it for DYK. While the article is decent, it lacks references. Is there any chance you could add the sources you used to write the article to the bottom of the page, or just to the talk page (if they're offline, note the publication information of the book or the equivalent.) Even if you're not bothered about its appearance on the Main Page, it'd at least prevent someone from adding the rather unsightly {{unreferenced}} template to the top of the article at some point in the future. [edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.

I note that you've added a set of Area studies journals to List of scientific journals. I'm not sure whether or not Area studies falls under the remit of scientific journals and would be grateful if you could clarify at the talk page. In any case the list is limited to around 10 journals per category, so the list of 19 journals that you've added requires some pruning. Thanks. Espresso Addict 22:21, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] K&A canal

Ages ago yu added some content to the article on the Kennet and Avon Canal. I've done some work on this and the Locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal and have put them both up for featured status see discussions at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal & Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Kennet and Avon Canal. I'd be grateful if you had anything you could add to either article or the discussions. — Rod talk 12:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Encyclopedias

Hi, what is the purpose of Category:National encyclopedias? Also I want to rename the "<language> encyclopedias"-categories to "<language>-language general encyclopedias". Cheers, —Ruud 20:35, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] University ranking piece

I appreciate and respect your additions, but I don't really understand why you keep deleting documented contributions by me (and many other people) on this piece. I understand you have a preference for the Shanghai Jiao Tong ranking, but there are several other ones (some are probably more important for different readers).

I suspect you are from the US, and you prefer this ranking, since it is given in a US magazine, the Economist. But one cannot dismiss, for instance, the Times ranking, prepared by a prestigious British newspaper, the Webometrics ranking, prepared by the division of documentation of the Spanish research COuncil or even the ranking of the EU comission. Even the ranking by our Slovenian colleagues seems to have well founded methodology, though it does produce results that are somewhat less convergent with the others.

My point is that no one source can be assumed to hold the absolute truth, but presenting all the facts in a neutral, balanced manner seems the most reasonable approach. You can always insert arguments and information why the first ranking is better, for instance (as long as they are reasonably objective), but simply deleting the well-referenced contributions of other people because you don't agree with it does not seem to be very neutral to me.

To break this article into many small sections is a possiblity, but it doesn't make much sense because all these actually do the same thing: they rank world universities - albeit according to slightly different criteria. The heading "Academic Ranking of world universities" can pretty much refer to all of them (what is the alternative: have 5-6 different articles called: "ranking of world universities no 1", "ranking of world universities no 2" etc.?). It seems unreasonable to get many articles with a couple of lines each, instead of one where all facts and arguments with references (and it's not long either, compared to other Wikipedia pieces). If you really insist of this defragmentation approach, I suppose it can be done, though in my opinion is not such useful effort. Sincerely yours, Papertiger

[edit] Danny Abbadi

Just wondering why you speedy deleted the Danny Abbadi article. No speedy deletion criteria applied to that page. Please restore it, it easily passes WP:BIO and would easily pass an AfD. I will assume good faith and assume this was a mistake, and hope it is restored ASAP. If not, I plan on bringing this to deletion review. VegaDark 04:40, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Piping links on disambig pages

Hi, I noticed that you edited the disambiguation page The Way to pipe some of the links. I just thought I'd let you know that this is actually dis-recommended by the style guide on disambiguation pages, WP:MOSDAB. I'm not sure what their logic is, but I do agree with it, since when I'm fixing links that point to disambig pages, it really takes unnecessary time when I have to hover over each link to find out which page it's actually linking to. -- Antaeus Feldspar 02:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Air Force One

This article is currently up for featured article review here. The main issue is a lack of citations. You nominated a couple of years ago, so perhaps you're able to source it now. The review process lasts a full month, so no rush. Marskell 13:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image sourcing for Wesley Clark?

Hi Neutrality! You uploaded two extremely useful images for Wesley Clark's article (which I'm trying to clean-up to FA status eventually), Image:Silver Star Citation.gif and Image:West Point Acceptance Letter.gif. While they are pretty clearly in the public domain (and certainly fair use even if not), do you have the source information for these images? It would be useful to head off that particular issue for an eventual FAC. Thanks! Staxringold talkcontribs 00:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] North Korea USGS image

I noticed the image you uploaded to the commons is larger than the original from the USGS website. Probably could optimize it a bit... --- RockMFR 05:16, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Languages of South Africa

Hi Neutrality,

I took a shot a formatting the section you asked about in the technical village pump. I'm unsure what the end result should look like, and didn't understand the relevance of the external link you provided. Would you take a look and see what you think? — EncMstr 18:45, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your old request for a map of Italy

Dear Sir or Madam: I was looking through the map requests and I was intrigued by your 18-month-old request for "Italian towns and towns around 1000 CE" similar to this map and one for 1494. I just completed two maps of Italy for the years 1796 and 1810 (see my User page) and I thought that I could perhaps add these two to the sequence. Did you have articles in mind for these 2 maps? If so, has someone fulfilled the need in the intervening 1½ years? Are you still interested? Let me know. Yr faithful servant, MapMaster 02:53, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Not sure if you check your archives, but I thought I should leave a followup in any case. I have created a map of Italy in 1494 (click here) and inserted into a several of articles. FYI, MapMaster 21:14, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
