substances are not reabsorbed by the pre-synaptic membrane, there is a specific uptake, called the reuptake. It includes specific transport-proteins localized in the membrane of the cell. These transporters are existing for 5-HT (blocked by SSRIs) (and other monoaminergic transmitters, respectively) and choline (a methabolic product of acetylcholine)!
