WP Former Countries - Things to do:
Open tasks for WikiProject Former countries Edit
- Correct links: Correct any wikilinks that you find anywhere on Wikipedia where the link is to the wrong version of the state. Some examples of bad links:
- Referring to the former Free City of Lübeck (an independent entity for 711 years), but the link goes to the modern city of Lübeck.
- Referring to Napoleon's France, where the link instead goes to modern France.
- Create redirects: If the article for the correct state does not yet exist, create a redirect to the nearest existing article (if possible) and place {{WPFC|class=Needed}} on the redirect's talk page. Whether or not a redirect has been created, list the wanted article below under "Needed".
Article improvement
After performing any of these tasks, re-rate the entry via the WPFC banner, and remove the article from the relevant list.
- Expand: Confederation of the Rhine, Straits Settlements, Belgian Congo, Free City of Lübeck, Kingdom of Ireland, North German Confederation, Spanish East Indies
- Stubs: Adamawa Emirate, Baranya-Baja Republic, Kingdom of Redonda, Piratini Republic, United States of Colombia
- Needed: Kingdom of Bavaria

[edit] earlier conversations
Netherlands New Guinea was always treated as a seperate colony to the Netherlands East Indies
What is the source for the claim that the Dutch sanctioned the name West Papua? Here is the text of the ordinances of 1961 dealing with the new flag and anthem, but clearly not with the name; they explicitly speak of the "flag of Netherlands New Guinea", not of "West Papua". --Wik 22:07, May 4, 2004 (UTC)
Yes, you seem to be correct. I think we should remove mention of the name West Papua at all until we can figure out exactly what was going on. john 22:09, 4 May 2004 (UTC)
Also, do you think the page should be moved to Netherlands New Guinea? john 22:10, 4 May 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, that would seem to be more correct. Also, I don't think the discussion about what happened after Dutch rule belongs in this article at all. --Wik 22:14, May 4, 2004 (UTC)
Yes, I concur. I took out much of it already. I shall move the page. john 22:23, 4 May 2004 (UTC)
