Nerk'in Getashen

Nerk'in Getashen (lower Getashen) is a fishing village on the south coast of Lake Sevan in Gegharkunik, Armenia. It lies at an altitude 1948 meters and was an early medieval capital of the region. Latitude : 40° 08' 45 Longitude : 45° 15' 50 Before 1945 it had the Russian name of Nizhniy Adyaman.
Of note is the 9th Century monastery and church of Kotavank overlooking the village and the Argich river and the Turkic rune inscriptions nearby. There are also two large stone forts from the Middle Ages located 2 km to the east and 3 km the west of the village. In town at the ruined basilica there are khachkars built into its walls.
South of Nerk'in Getashen lies Verin (upper) Getashen, founded 1828-29 from by migrants from Mush and Alashkert.
