[edit] Neopets Controversy

Moved the controversy section to a new page, due to no objections and 3 complaints about the section being longer than the article.

Lmblackjack21 13:00, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

While I agree with the creation of a new article, I need to point out two things:
  • Move some references to the new article.
  • The Controversy section that remains in the main article should not consist of only two paragraphs. Ideally, it should summarize the controversies in 3-4 paragraphs of at least 4 sentences each. If the Controversy section in the main article is too short, you may be accused of POV forking.

--J.L.W.S. The Special One 14:29, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I have added slightly more information to the controversy section, hopefully not too long. CityPride 10:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sloth????

I'm suprised nobody has compared Dr. Sloth to the animal. I'm wondering, is he a sloth???? OR does it have ANYTHING to do with real sloths????Noahwoo 21:40, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Not that I know of, no. Nifboy 16:14, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
No, Sloth is an evil dude on Neopets who randomly gives out morph potions.
Technically, he gives out transmogrification potions, but Dr. Frank Sloth still doesn't have anything to do with the animal. He is actually more often compared to a chicken. --Brain 23:21, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I friend and I discussed this and decided he is a mutant carrot. B katt 500 02:47, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Concerning TNT Usernames

My article on TNT Usernames has recently been deleted and I was told that the staff members of Neopets do not want their usernames released. Is this true? Dorkiie 04:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

That's what I've always been told. I also deleted the list because it was more of a trivia-type collection, not necessarily part of the main article. Lmblackjack21 19:21, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
That may be true, but did TNT actually say this? I'd figure if people knew the usernames, chances of being scammed by an impersonator would be less likely. Pardon me for not understanding how this subtopic is irrelevant to the article. Dorkiie 04:43, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
A list of Neopets administrators doesn't really add anything to the reader's understanding of Neopets. Moreover, unless there's some official listing of their admins on their site somewhere, it isn't verifiable information. If you think a list of administrators might be useful to Neopets users, then I'd suggest you ask the Neopets staff about putting one up on their site somewhere. Zetawoof(ζ) 05:29, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Asking TNT sounds like a good idea. Thank you. Dorkiie 07:20, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Ask TNT? Good luck with that Mightyxjess 07:06, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the TNT is not afriad to have their usernames out there. if that were the case, they wouldn't allow anyone to know them in any fashion, and wouldn't even label the user lookups as being part of the TNT. so it really couldn't be taken down for privacy, but it COULD be taken down for the fact it was too large of a trivia chunk not really relative to anyone but the most die-hard of fans. --Joe Somebody 00:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Petpet

Hi all. Petpet went to AFD recently. The verdict was to merge everything bar the huge list of Petpets with Neopets. Accordingly, I have put the paragraph of information and the image in a new section on this article, and redirected Petpet to here. It remains up to you guys what you do with it. Cheers, Proto::type 11:33, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I wondered what happened to the Petpet article. so it would seem someone needs to go and pick up the task. *sigh* i suppose the rest of the information not added to this article can be cleaned from the History of "Petpet", needed or not. --Joe Somebody 00:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why the protection?

Why the protection for the article? Last time I checked, the talk page was only one page long. Was there some big (new) controversy that I didn't know about?Serenaacw 11:00, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

It was semi-protected, due to 5 IP vandals a minute. -Amarkov babble 14:10, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Whoa,really? Sorry that didn't know that before,I haven't edited this article in a while.Thanks for answering :) Serenaacw 02:27, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Who thinks that neopets has to many copy-cat sites?

Not mentioning any sites but neo has way too many.

71.28.52.114 22:13, 10 November 2006 (UTC) Rebekah

Yup like Mara pets? 210.49.194.248 07:02, 15 November 2006 (UTC) Yeah but Mara pets really stinks. (UTC)

I wonder what's next? A Team fortress 2 fad? Flashn00b 04:51, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

None of the fan sites are any fun. They have worlds and stuff but the pets drawings are terrible. And I used to have an account on marapets but I quit because it is soooo boring! There isnt a single fun game on there. Yunalove 06:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Neopets Cheating & Use of Programs

I think it'd be good to note on how some users use bots and programs on neopets to gain advantage. I ran into www.neofreaks.info recently, and I think I'd be notable to add it under external links. They're also credited with finding the item dupe glitch back in July 2005. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TomConti (talk • contribs) 20:35, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

I'm pretty sure we won't be linking this website to the article, just as i'm sure the "World of Warcraft" article doesn't allow links to hightly popular gold mining companies within the game. It can be mentioned programs are still being made and so forht, but to directly link and point to them seems a little shameful. --Joe Somebody 00:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
It think it would be helpful, and wouldn't find it appropriate to censor the knowledge of information, especially in a case like this. I do agree with you that it wouldn't be appropriate to link to websites making profit off another website, such as the selling of points. In this case though, I believe the site is just an information source as they aren't selling membership or points. I would feel that the article would be a bit biased if it didn't describe the other side of neopets. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TomConti (talk • contribs) 03:11, 20 December 2006 (UTC).
That's unnecessary, in my opinion, because it's not really a Neopets-specific problem - in every MMORPG there are people attempting to cheat, so this is better addressed there. —AySz88\^-^ 08:34, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree. makes more sense to be voiced as a problem in the MMORPG community and not just for Neopets. As far as describing the other side of neopets, i think it's done fine now mentioning the cheaters/spammers/cookie grabbers. it can be expanded upon/refined though. --Joe Somebody 11:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] scientology

so what are the links with scientology other than dohring being a scientologist? I couldn't care less about neopets other than the scientology thing, and yet it is not explained in this article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.19.14.36 (talkcontribs) 02:14, 20 December 2006 (UTC).

I think it's because scientology is implemented in the workplace, or at least it's implied that way in this article. There is also the fear it would spread into the site itself, despite the fact Neopets doesn't support any religion or school of thought. I think it's best to discuss it in the main neopets controversy article, as it's just a quick summary here. --Joe Somebody 11:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Neomail Limits

From article : Neopets also has a "limit" on the number of neomails that can be sent in a day, or more so, in a certain span of time. This is to prevent the slowing down of a server and spamming. It also allows you to talk with your friends, but only if they have an account on neopets.

There are no limits unless the limit is infinity.I send like 100 neomails a day and there is no limit,I highly doubt it.No one that I know was every stopped while trying to send a neomial just because they already sent too much.plus, with it being so popular, the neopets server would slow down anyway. Talk section created by Alyssacarmillo 20:32, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

If you send excessive neomails (i think i would've sent 500 that day) within a period you will have your neomail suspended untill a staff member has reviewed it. I know from past experience. There is no limit on ordinary use

There is no possible way theres a limit, I send at least 300 nms to ONE SINGLE PERSON a day.And trust me, I neoamil at least 10 people a day. Yunalove 6:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Neoshop advertisement

Below the articles for petpetpets theres an advertisement for a neoshop(180036459's) claiming there are petpetpetpets. Should that be removed? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.181.241.80 (talk • contribs) 18:42, 1 January 2007.

I found this section to be of poor quality and removed it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.4.205.120 (talkcontribs) 04:49, 2 January 2007.

You were right in removing it, as it was just someone advertising themselves on the article (in a lying manner as well). Such vandalism is damaging to the article, and should always be removed if it's seen. --Joe Somebody 11:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Delete?

It seems to me that this is the only online pet site with a page... all the other ones are deleted and locked. That seems a bit biased to me as if only Neopets deserves a page when Marapets ,with over half a million users, gets deleted and locked from being recreated. Why should ONLY Neopets (one of the scummiest online pet sites in my OPINION) be the only one allowed to have an article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.82.185.132 (talk) 05:02, 16 January 2007 (UTC).

Because articles come from having sources. Neopets has sources, so it gets an article. Marapets doesn't, so it doesn't get an article. It doesn't matter if it's bad or not. -Amarkov blahedits 05:05, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Marapets is (last time i checked) right behind Neopets.. I think if anything Marapets deserves a page. I am not being biased as I havent been a member of either for over a year, but Marapets is a company too. I think it deserves an article and if it doesnt then Neopets doesnt. I would contact the admin who locked it but they are unavailible
Being right behind is irrelevant. Having sources is what's relevant. Find me two reliable sources for Marapets, and I will do everything I can to get it undeleted. -Amarkov blahedits 05:13, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

If anything there should be a few lists of sites that tried to recreate neopets. In all fairness, Neopets is owned by Viacom (a pretty big company) where Marapets is owned by some 15 year old. It's a non-notable. TomConti 01:26, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry but I'm not a wiki-user. By sources what would I be looking for? An article about Marapets that has facts?

Partly. It also has to be from reliable sources, which means no fansites, forums, or blogs. -Amarkov blahedits 05:17, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

How could you POSSIBLY think neopets is a scummy site? It is the best site on the internet! Marapets is one of the worst websites ever. Why should it have an article? The drawings suck and the games are boring. None of the pets have good names, either. Marapets and all the other virtual pet sites are lame. And neopets has WAY more than half a million users. Obviously. Why would anyone be on marapets when they could be on neopets? There is no possible way theres a limit, I send at least 300 nms to ONE SINGLE PERSON a day.And trust me, I neoamil at least 10 people a day. Yunalove 6:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bankruptcy

I was stub sorting earlier and came across Neopets Bankruptcy. Its got no sources, and is written as a news article, but it might be something to add to this page before I put it up for speedy deletion.StvnLunsford 20:42, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I go on Neopets often and I'd think that something about this would be in the news. They are grossing so much per year that bankruptcy is unlikely at this point. I think you were right to put it up for deletion. --Brain 23:25, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jelly Blobs of Doom movie date

This is a joke. It's not worthy of keeping in the article.

Really.

A wikipedia member with a terrible username 14:37, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Colour vs. Color

I've found that both spellings of color have been used in the article, and I was just wondering which set of spellings should be used. SmileToday 20:15, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

British spelling should be default for this article. The co-creators are British and British spelling is commonly found across the site. Squids'and'Chips 21:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I've changed all the spellings of color to colour, but if I missed anything, please fix it. SmileToday 22:58, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] idea

Something should be added somewhere about how neopets is decreasing in value. it was worth like, 160 million before and is now worth 20mill. That's a huge loss. Their page views are way down and everything is going downhill. source = http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?q=neopets.com&url=neopets.com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.30.49.240 (talk • contribs) 23:04, March 19, 2007.

It's on and off really. If there was an article it could be sourced from, I suppose it could be added but alexa isn't a reputable source. TomConti 01:26, 29 March 2007 (UTC)`

[edit] Vandalism

Someone who can needs to rename this back to Neopets. Angryscientist 17:44, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I think it's partly because IP bandits such as some from the New Kirbish Rebellion obviously have a deep grudge against Neopets (Kirbies attack noobs on the Neopets roleplaying boards) or something. That or they want their article back, I suppose. Deletion Quality 21:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
