Neonaticide
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Neonaticide, not to be confused with filicide or infanticide, is the killing of a newborn within the first 24 hours of life.
There are an estimated 150 and 300 neonatacides committed annually in the US. This number does not take into consideration newborns who go unfound such as infants who end up in landfills or in a quarry.
To date, 47 states have established "Safe Haven Laws" programs that allow the mother to drop off her newborn anonymously.
90% of the perpetrators are under 25 years of age.
