Neon was a British film magazine published monthly by Emap Consumer Media from December 1996 to February 1999. It proved to be a refreshing alternative to trite English film magazines such as Empire.

Started in 1996, Neon included the traditional departments -- latest film news, actor profiles and interviews and contemporary movie profiles while eschewing them with a cheeky sense of humor. One regular staple was a detailed, oral history of a classic movie with comments culled from cast and crew members (sourced from books or old interviews in other magazines). This technique was later copied by fellow UK film periodical Hotdog Magazine.

Neon also championed lesser known films like Mike Leigh's Naked and ran in-depth profiles of box office flops like Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately, the magazine did not make a profit and after a year of lackluster sales, publishers EMAP changed the editors and took a more commercial direction. The quality diminished and Neon was eventually canceled.
