Neo-Reichian massage

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Neo-Reichian massage is a system based on theories developed by Wilhelm Reich (see orgone therapy and Reichian Therapy). Practitioners locate and dissolve "holding patterns" (also called "body armoring"). Reich theorized that obstructions to orgone energy cause neuroses and most physical disorders. Muscular contractions (body armor) in various parts of the body manifest such blockages.

In addition to strict Neo-Reichians, the work has provided the basis for further explorations both in the areas of Somatic_Psychology and postural body therapies such as Rolfing and Postural_integration. Recently, Jack Painter, PhD has systematized Reichian principles for body workers and therapists in his Bodymind Integration[1] workshops.
