Nemo judex in sua causa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nemo judex in sua causa is a Latin term which describes the principle of natural justice that no person can judge a case in which he or she is a party.

May also be called:

  • nemo judex in parte sua
  • nemo debet esse judex in propria causa
  • in propria causa nemo judex

This along with the other principle "No man shall be judged unheard" otherwise put "Reasonable opportunity must be given to an accused, in defending his side of the case" forms the twin rules of natural justice.
