Nelson Pass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Neslon Pass is a noted designer of audio amplifiers.

He received his graduate degree in physics from the University of California-Davis. He founded high-end amplifier company Threshold Electronics in 1974. He sold Threshold Electronics in 1987, and founded Pass Labs in 1991.

He is known for his advocacy of "minimalist" designs [1] which reduce the number of components through which the audio signal must travel, and unlike many audio engineers, believes that listening tests are valuable and that electrical measurements do not fully characterize the sound of an amplifier [2]. He is also very supportive of the DIY audio community and interacts frequently with audio hobbyists. [3] [4]

Mr. Pass holds at least seven U.S. patents related to audio circuits. [5]

Is a contributing editor to audioXpress magazine.
