Nellie Shabalala

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nellie Shabalala was the lead singer in the group "Women of Mambazo", that released one album. It was allied to Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Nellie Shabalala was married to LBM's lead singer, Shabalala, for some thirty years, when in May 2002, Nellie was murdered in a church car park by a masked gunman. Shabalala's hand was supposedly injured trying to protect her (references needed). To date, no conviction has been made. However there was a trial. Joseph's son Vivian Nkosinathi (Nellie's stepson) was accused of hiring a man to kill Nellie. During the court trial, Nkosinathi supposedly testified that the South African police offered some kind of reprieve if he would implicate his own father, Shabalala, in the murder (references needed).
