Nelida Roca

Nelida Roca (born Nelida Mercedes Musso on May 30, 1929 in Buenos Aires), was one of the first divas of Argentina.
Her friends and colleagues fondly called her La Roca ("The Rock"), the journalists and the public also called her the venus goddess of Corrientes Avenue (the Buenos Aires theatres district).
Since childhood, she always sought to become a famous artist, but she had to confront the strong opposition of her father, an Italian man from Genoa and also of her mother from Galicia, Spain.
In the 1950s Nelida, married Julio Rivera Roca, a jazz piano player. With his support she turned her dreams into reality becoming the singer of his orchestra. Didn't take it long to Luis Cesar Amadori, owner of the Maipo Theatre to discover her, he produced a show named: The Maipo Theatre is telling its history, with Nelida starring the show, the price of the seats on the first row triplicated, and she became a legend.
In her last spectacle in the winter of 1974 she shared her sovereignty with the then “new-born” star Susana Gimenez in a theatre show named The Golden Revue, in which two different époques were establishing contact.
Nelida Roca died from a heart attack on December 1999.
