Graham Poll - Following a mistake by Poll which led to Arsenal scoring in the FA Cup semi-final in 2003

This is not NPOV! The question as to whether Campbell fouled Allison (the latter certainly went down too easily...) is open to debate and the embarassing collision of Poll and Tonge was the latters fault... Rather than debate this may I suggest rewording it to:

Graham Poll - Following a disputed decision and a collision with a defender by Poll which Warnock felt led to Arsenal scoring in the FA Cup semi-final in 2003

That also gets round the fact that Sheffield had a few other players between both Allison and Tonge and the goal. If ya can't defend your goal after a bad decision that high up the pitch...

OK change it then

The Colin Wanker bit should be included in the article. That's why he's called it, and Wikipedia has no policy about hiding from mild profanity. HornetMike 23:51, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

I've refered to it as British sexual slang. I feel this allows people the opportunity to work it out for themselves, without causing too much offense.

[edit] Category:English football managers

Neil's article is currently tagged to include him in Category:English football referees. This category is designed to list notable persons who have carried out the calling or profession of referee, not those in other areas of notability who happen to have a formal refereeing qualification (at whatever Level you care to mention). As you know, Neil's notability is as a Football Manager, not as a football referee. You can appreciate that, if tenuous links like this were to be applied throughout Wikipedia, we'd have some very strange results indeed. I would like others' thoughts on this please. Refsworldlee(chew-fat) 21:15, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Any comments forthcoming? I will give it a bit more time, but I do intend to repeat my removal of the cat tag "English football referees" at the bottom of the Neil Warnock page (the "Category:English football referees" list currently looks slightly ridiculous because of it), unless anyone can give me a valid reason why not. Please note this is NOT an "edit war", it's a call for common sense! Thanks, and hope to hear some input soon. Refsworldlee(chew-fat) 14:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't see what your objection is - why not object to him being listed under chiropodist as well? He is notable, and is a qualified referee, so he can go under referee. If we look at say Jarvis Cocker he is cat video directors - I think it's safe to say that he would not have reached notability on this score. Blair is listed as a barrister; I doubt if he is notable as one, having been an MP since 1983. roundhouse 15:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
PS I am delighted to find Segar Bastard under referees. I wonder what the crowd called him? roundhouse 15:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Short-sighted, if my experience (6 years) is anything to go by.

Okay, I will leave well enough alone, I feel as protective about my 'adopted' pages as you do about yours. "Ref" he is, then. Although I still say the Category:English football referees looks dead comical with a cuckoo in the nest! :-) Refsworldlee(chew-fat) 22:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Cookoo in the nest - that's not a bad way of looking at it actually! L.J.SkinnerWOT?|I did 22:52, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Westfield?

Friends Reunited claims that Warnock went to Westfield School. Can anyone provide a ref? (ie reference, rather than referee.) roundhouse 10:58, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Players: Stephen Hunt

Hi. I have made a slight amendment to the addition to Disputes>Players>Stephen Hunt, as it appears the alleged comment by Neil is unsubstantiated (the BBC web site lists the "quote" under AND SOME FROM YOU, stating that it was submitted by (Tom, France), not reported in authority or with integrity). It could possibly be hearsay, and therefore potential defamation. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 12:56, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you on this one. The citation business is a bit tricky with today's news - even if one quotes something he said on MOTD I'm not sure that counts unless one can cite something in writing. roundhouse 13:13, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
I watched his interview on MOTD, he certainly didn't say that to my knowledge - I think the BBC web site would have quoted that source if he had, rather than (Tom, France) - (if Tom was in France, I doubt if he saw MOTD!). Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 00:33, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate - Accused Southgate fielding a weaker starting XI against relegation threatened Manchester City. Claiming he "helping out" friend, Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce

Is this true? Do we have any evidence/quotes to back this up? Is there even evidence gareth didn't rotated his squad? Lewisskinner 01:39, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

This interview with Neil Warnock was shown on Sky Sports News on 19 March 2007. Although there is no credence in hearsay, I have added ESPNsoccernet's take on the affair, by supplying the reference in the article. It's true that he has alleged this, but who knows if it's true that Southgate did the deed? We don't have to supply a source for that - we provide a source for the quote. Merely outlining what was said does not harden any libel/slander allegations which may follow, and it will pass WP:BLP, I'm sure.Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 16:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputes: Micky Adams

Hi. Anyone like to fill this one in? It has absolutely no description of the 'dispute', when or why. It's virtually just name-dropping. Otherwise this ought to come off - I'm sure Micky Adams would like someone to elaborate on the argument! If anyone's about to write "Ah yeah but I remember this one and it did happen", do enter the gist into the article, preferably with the source. Cheers. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 20:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Anyone taking up the challenge? If not, I think Micky needs to be removed from Disputes, as there don't appear to have been any between himself and Neil. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 21:14, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I can't find anything. I'd agree, delete it. L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 01:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Lewis. Done. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 21:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
