Neil Comrie

Neil Comrie (Born: 12 June, 1946, Queensland, Australia) is a former Chief Commissioner of Police for Victoria.

Following in both his father's and grandfather's footsteps, he joined the Victoria Police Force in 1967. After working his way through the ranks, he succeeded in attaining several high-ranking positions in the Queensland Police Force. He was appointed Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police in 1993, succeeding Commissioner Kel Glare, and remained in that role until he retired in 2001. He was succeeded by Commissioner Christine Nixon.

With his long service, he contributed to the 146 years of police service that his family has served.

In 1980 Neil studied at the State College of Victoria at Coburg (which later became part of RMIT) to complete an Associate Diploma in Criminal Justice Administration. Later he completed a Bachelor of Arts (Police Studies) degree at Deakin University.

Career Highlights:

1990 - appointed Assistant Commissioner in the Queensland Police Service

1993 - appointed as the eighteenth Chief Commissioner of the Victoria Police Force

1994 - awarded Australian Police Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours List

2000 - Awarded Officer (General Division) in the Order of Australia 2000
