Nedum Onuoha (born in Warri, Nigeria on November 12, 1986) is an English footballer who currently plays for Manchester City as a defender. Most comfortable at centre back, he can also play at right-back or left-back.
An outstanding junior sprinter, he finished in second place in the final of the 2001 English School's Athletics Association Junior 100 metres contest, clocking an astonishing 11.09 seconds as a 14 year old.
Onuoha played regularly for Manchester City's reserves in the 2003-04 season, and had his first involvement with the manchester City first team in the 2004-05 pre-season, playing in a friendly against Bury.[1] He made his fisrt team debut against Arsenal in the Carling Cup, in October 2004, at the age of 17. Though Onuoha's natural position is centre-half, Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan initially played him at right back with the intention of improving his passing ability.[2] On 12 October 2005 he made his debut for England's under-21 team. The player has made an impressive break into first team football, with exceptional physical ability and a composed attitude. Unfortunately, Onouha suffered a series of injuries during the 2005/2006 season, meaning he played only 12 games.
Going into the 2006/2007 season, he had made 30 senior appearances for Manchester City.
In March 2007, Onuoha received an international callup from Nigeria,[3] but has not announced whether he wishes to represent Nigeria or England at full international level.
