[edit] History
Necaxa was founded August 21, 1923 with the support of the Compañía de Luz, from which they drew a nickname, the "Electricistas". They were very successful in the early days of the Mexican league, winning championships in the 1932-33, 1934-35, 1936-37, and 1937-38 seasons.
Necaxa's fortunes declined after the professionalization of the Mexican league following the 1942-43 season, as they were excluded from the newly formed, 10-team Liga Mayor.
Necaxa went the next fifty years without winning a single championship, before finally returning to prominence in the mid-1990s. They won consecutive championships in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons under manager Manuel Lapuente. They finished runners-up three times.
Their 2000 3rd place finish in the FIFA World Club Championship (Global Confederation Championship) is the highest by any Mexican club team (Club America played in the Consolation Round but lost in 2006).
