Near Death Experience (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Near Death Experience was the name of more than one American band. One of these was a goth rock band in Los Angeles during the 1990s. Their first and only release, "Journey Into Darkness", received very little attention due to poor marketing on behalf of their record label, "None of the Above Music". The British group One Minute Silence were forced to change their original name of Near Death Experience before signing a record deal due to the existence of this former band.

However, neither of these bands was the first to use the name Near Death Experience. That distinction belongs to a band which formed in Lawrence, KS in 1984, which achieved a great deal of notoriety in the Midwestern punk/alternative scene between then and their last show in 1987. Their best-known song was the infamous "Dolphin Torture", documented on the 1986 vinyl compilation LP "Fresh Sounds from Middle America, Volume 3".
