[edit] History

NDC-GR descends from the Hellenic III Army Corps (parent HQ of NDC-GR), a historic formation of the Hellenic Army.

After the decisions of the NATO Military Committee (November 2000) and the Niece's EU summit (December 2000), the Hellenic Army General Staff decided to offer the III Army Corps HQ as a candidate HQ:

To EU, as Operations HQ for planning and directing autonomous, joint and combined EU-led operations.

To NATO, as Deployable Land Headquarters for Forces at Lower Readiness -FLR (L) HQ, named NATO Deployable Corps (NDC) - GR HQ.

[edit] Mission

NDC-GR will provide the HQ capabilities for sustainment and rotation for prolonged operations. In order to operate throughout the entire spectrum of NATO missions which may range from high to low intensity, a FLR(L) HQ must be able to fulfill the two broad functions of sustaining/rotating a HRF(L) HQ or as an AJFCC.

[edit] Mission Spectrum

NDC-GR HQ will be declared to NATO and will be placed under OPCOM to SACEUR once the NAC has agreed upon a mission. The HQ can be deployed as a FLR (L) HQ Alliance-wide and beyond. It will be able to operate throughout the entire mission spectrum, ranging from PSO up to high intensity combat operations in any physical environment.
