[edit] Carnatic music TOC

Hi, I think moving Important musical treatises below before the References section would be appropriate as it seems to direct readers to resources related to Carnatic music. Keeping it at the start of the article may daunt some lay users. What do you think? Thanks Parthi talk/contribs 00:13, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your reverts to Carnatic music

With regards to your comments on User talk:Venu62: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Please see this. The issue has been under discussion and you are welcome to add to it. The sentence I added is fully cited and as you don't won the article, it is not appropriate for you to unilaterally delete referred information from the article. Also please note that using words such as "POV pushing" etc is a personal attack and I would like to recommend you to refrain from it. Thanks Parthi talk/contribs 00:45, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Ncmvocalist, I really not up to speed to the conflict about the Carnatic music. I may need a few days to be useful and I am very busy at the moment. Maybe you could find somebody else to mediate it? Naming somebody POV-pusher can be seen as a mild personal attack, so I am uncomfortable with removing the warning unless I completely got the substance of the message. We have WP:SPADE policy, according to it naming a POV-pusher a POV-pusher is not a PA. At that stage I do not have a clue if it is relevant here or not. Sorry for not been very helpful, maybe tomorrow. Alex Bakharev 02:45, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User notice: temporary 3RR block

[edit] Regarding reversions[1] made on December 18, 2006 to Carnatic_music

You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three-revert rule. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future.
The duration of the block is 24 hours. William M. Connolley 20:38, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Re your mail. If you want to report someone else for 3RR, please do it on the 3RR page. Meanwhile, please don't break the rule yourself: better still, use WP:1RR William M. Connolley 14:57, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your notices on User talk:Venu62

Hi, I see that you left several templates on [2]. I believe that these templates may not be appropriate. Vandalism refers specifically to edits that are not made in good faith, or with the intent of harming the project. I think you should assume that User:Venu62 is making edits in good faith, believing them to be positive contributions. With regards to NPOV, it is not apparent to me that Venu62's edits violate NPOV. So, I will be removing the tags. Please feel free to discuss this with me further if you disagree. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 01:22, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I have responded to your message on my talk page [3]. --BostonMA talk 01:48, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Civility and NPA warning

(removing NPA template -- see discussion below --BostonMA talk 21:25, 20 December 2006 (UTC))

Parthi, could you provide a diff to the comment or comments that you believe are uncivil and/or personal attacks. Thanks. --BostonMA talk 19:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
This user shows incivility and assumes bad faith when he says I '[deliberately] fail to notice' other's views. I consider his comment 'Take some initiative' as a personal attack. Thanks Parthi talk/contribs 21:13, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you Parthi. The comment as I understood it stated that you failed to notice, not that you deliberately failed to notice. Also, although Take some initiative might be a bit harsh, it might also be considered a suggestion, rather than a personal attack. I have removed the NPA template. Please try to be more conservative in your use of such templates in the future. Thank you --BostonMA talk 21:25, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Carnatic music discussion

Please try to answer the questions here and contribute to useful discussions. Thanks Parthi talk/contribs 00:04, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A warning

There is no template for the warning that I am about to give you. However, you should take it very seriously. Warning templates are not personal attacks. Even warning templates that are placed in error are not personal attacks. Warning templates warn a user about behavior and the possible consequences of that behavior. They do not attack the character of the user on whose talk page they are placed. Nor are they intended to attack the character of that user. On the other hand, repeatedly placing warning templates on another user's talk page, when those templates may not be appropriate may be a form of harassment. I have previously suggested that use warning templates in a more conservative fashion. If there is any question about the appropriateness of a template, I suggest that you seek the advice of a third party, especially an administrator or an editor with significant experience. Only upon such advice should you then place warning templates. Although this is in general good advice, in this case I intend to enforce it. If you continue to place warning templates on User:Venu62's talk page without prior approval of an administrator or of someone with a year or more experience in Wikipedia, and I find these warnings to be of questionable appropriateness, then I will file a report for harassment by you toward Venu62. Please take this under advisement. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 00:24, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Venu62

Usually complains to WP:AN/3RR work only if there are clearily 4 reverts. It was not the case that time. Looking into the history of Carnatic music I could see an edit war between you and Venu62. Since noone else participate in the discussion and since I know nothing about the carnatic music I could only block both of you. I am not sure it is the way to go.

Try to involve more people into the editing of the article. Maybe it is worth to start an article WP:RfC or apply for some sort of WP:DRV. I cannot see any other ways to settle your dispute. Alex Bakharev 07:13, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Muruganpamalai.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Muruganpamalai.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Thanks for your interest in Carnatic mustic

We desperately need some help in shaping up the article and providing it with verifiable and reliable citations. It seems that you have a good knowledge of the subject, so maybe you could help us out. We are seeking to make it a quality article as the subject matter deserves. Please contact me with any ideas you have. Thanking you in advance! Sincerely, --Mattisse 02:38, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry that I seem to have affronted you. I have spent considerable time trying to find reference sources for the article unsuccessfully. I do not engage in edit wars so you have no need to fear that. I will not touch the article again. My interest in the article was that I am working on a Feature Article candidate that has a link to this article, so I tried to fix up the article enough for us to emphasis the topic in our article. Now I see that is not possible so we simply deemphasised the topic in our article. We ended up putting what we needed about Carnatic music with proper references in our own article, so we do not need this one. Thanks for your reply and good luck with the Carnatic music article. Sincerely, --Mattisse 13:16, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([4]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [5]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.
