[edit] Aims
Its aims, as stated in school assemblies, is that every child in the UK should be happy, safe and cared for. The official site also states: "The children, young people and families we work with face difficulties such as poverty, disability and abuse."
[edit] Mascots
Its main mascot is a furry toy dragon named "Cedric". He wears a white/pale yellow shirt with the NCH logo on it. Also a "Baby Cedric" features in school assemblies.
[edit] Themes in school assemblies
The best-behaved children in school assemblies are permitted to hold Cedric and Baby Cedric. Also a "Big Daddy Cedric" will usually appear.
[edit] Big Daddy Cedric
NCH also own dragon costumes with separate NCH shirts as worn by the other mascots (and representatives at school assemblies) which are worn by school staff, who are (supposedly) called away to do something that acts as an alibi, e.g. a telephone call, and appear in costume as "Big Daddy Cedric" as a thank you to participating schools.
[edit] Trivia
- NCH's aims that all children should be happy, safe and cared for are represented as three words, according to reps. However "cared for" is generally two words, even hyphenated. Even so, sometimes NCH prints "cared for" unhyphenated.
