Navy League Cadet Officers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Navy League Cadet Officers are volunteers that work for the Navy League Cadet Programme. Navy League Cadet Officers wear a uniform similar to that of the naval element of the Canadian Forces, however, Navy League Cadet Officers are not members in anyway of the Canadian Forces, and therefore, not entitled to the same privileges as officers of the Canadian Forces.

[edit] General
Similarly to officers of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, Navy League Cadet Officers work for individual Navy League Cadet Corps (or 'Corps de Cadet de la Ligue navale' in French). Every NLCC has a team of officers that work for the well being of the Navy League Cadets in their care, and give them a training programme that is similar to what is seen in the basic levels of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets.
[edit] Uniform of Navy League officers
Officers of the Navy League Cadet Programme must wear a uniform that follow the naval tradition. Even though the uniform is based on that of the Canadian Navy there are differences (according to NL 226):
[edit] Male and Female Uniforms
Male Uniforms
- Service Cap - Only NL Commanders may have oak leaf cluster on the peak, and all other officers must wear plain caps.
- Service Jacket - Must wear six NL buttons, and NAVY LEAGUE CANADA shoulder flashes. Francophone would wear LIGUE NAVALE CANADAflashes.
- Ranks - More information on will follow
Female Officers
- Service Cap - Naval pattern tricorn, or Naval pattern female, white, with plain
black peak.
- Navy blue, single breasted, with four Navy League pattern
buttons.
However, I have never seen a female Navy League officer wear the service jacket as demanded within these orders. Most wear the standard, Canadian Navy female service jacket, which also has 6 buttons, and is double-breasted.
Cap Badge
- The Navy League cap badge is based on that of the Royal Navy (and also that of the Royal Canadian Navy), however, replacing the crown with the naval crown.
[edit] Ranks
Officers of the Navy League wear ranks that are similar to that of the Canadian Navy. However, they must wear a Maple Leaf to show the difference between themselves, and members of the naval element of the Canadian Forces.
Also, all NL Cadet Officers must have NL or LN written with their rank, to show that they work for the Navy League.
[edit] Ranks in English
The following are a listing of the ranks of Navy League Cadet Officers:
- Midshipman(NL) - Mid(NL)
- Acting Sub Lieutenant (NL) - A/SLt(NL)
- Sub Lieutenant(NL) - SLt(NL)
- Lieutenant(NL) - Lt(NL)
- Lieutenant Commander (NL)
- Commander (NL) - Cdr(NL)
[edit] Ranks in French
Unlike the Canadian Navy which changed their naval rank titles to follow those which are used in the French Navy, the Navy League officers did not, and are still using the similar translated titles of the Canadian Navy (which where used until 1998).

- Lieutenant(LN)- Lt(LN)
- Lieutenant-commander (LN) - Lcdr(LN)
