Navesink Maritime Heritage Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Navesink Maritime Heritage Association (NMHA) is a non-profit educational organization that promotes appreciation and preservation of New Jersey's Navesink River communities' maritime heritage, including history, skills, watercraft, artifacts and associated arts, crafts, and sciences.

While the Association was formed to concentrate on the Navesink River Heritage, NMHA programs have now spread throughout Monmouth County, NJ.

NMHA aims to preserve and convey knowledge, skills and an appreciation of our maritime heritage through:

Educational programs devoted to wooden boat skills, craftsmanship, and river activities including boat building and restoration skills and outdoor educational programs. Preservation and restoration of commercial and recreational watercraft and artifacts representative of this region from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Study and interpretation of the maritime history of the New Jersey Navesink River communities, emphasizing art, commerce, technology and science. Collaboration with public and private organizations and institutions.

NMHA is a 501 C(3)organization founded in 1999.

The organization was a spin off from the Monmouth Boat Club community outreach program, and Monmouth Boat Club continues to support NMHA in some of its activities.

NMHA's actvities have resulted in special experience with water based educational programs and presently collaborates with many other educational organizations in innovative programs.
