National and University Library of Slovenia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National and University Library (Slovenian Narodna in univerzitetna knjižnica, NUK) is one of the most fundamental Slovenian national organisations, located in Ljubljana. Its current building was designed by Jože Plečnik in 1930-31 and constructed between 1936 and 1941. It is considered to be one of the architect's greatest projects.
In 1944 a German helicopter landed on the roof of the building and exploded, destroying about 60,000 books.
