National University of Modern Languages is located at Islamabad, Pakistan.The University began as an institute in 1970 to help people communicate and understand each other in different languages, to assimilate different cultures and to act as a springboard for emerging disciplines. At present it is a fully autonomous, degree awarding University. It has crossed several barriers and now teaches 23 languages in addition to many emerging arts and sciences.It is open to all persons, regardless of class, creed, gender, race,religion or color.

[edit] Administrative Set-Up

The President of Pakistan is the Chancellor while the Federal Minister of Education is the Pro-Chancellor .The day to day administration is controlled by a Board of Governors headed by the Chief of the Army Staff. Federal Secretaries of different ministries and prominent citizens from both private and public sectors function as its member.The Rector (Vice Chancellor) is responsible for keeping the university operative at an optimum level both in academics and administration.

The major source of knowledge of the university is the central library serving as the knowledge backbone for research and development regarding all the streams that are being offered by the university. The two storied centrally air-conditioned Library provides 12 hours access to over 150,000 books periodicals and journals on various subjects.It is one of the biggest libraries of Pakistan regarding languages, learning and rare research materials. The library contains huge collection of books, journals and research projects.

Recently the United Nations System in Pakistan has set up a reference library with over 10, 000 titles on various subjects The library is open to all researchers and academicians from across the country and abroad.

The language labs are well equipped to enhance the students’ audiovisual abilities. In addition, PDPs have also been provided to facilitate students taking help from the visual programs related to their subject of study.
