National Science Week

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are several "National Science Weeks" around the world but the idea may have started in the USA with the National Science and Technology Week (see talk page). In India Science Week culminates in National Science Day, which takes place each year on 28th February to commemorate C V Raman's discovery of the Raman Effect. In Australia National Science Week, which began in 1997, takes place in August. The USA Week has been the subject of a significant funding cut.

Britain's Science Week began in 1994 (now known as National Science and Engineering Week) and is organised by the British Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2006 there were over 100 activities in London alone, and in 2007 it's taking place from 9th to 18th March. In South Africa NSW is from 12th to 19th May 2007.
