National Instant Criminal Background Check System

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, is a point of sale system that Federal Firearms License holders are required by law to use in the United States when selling a firearm to a customer to determine if the customer is prohibited from buying a firearm under the Gun Control Act.
